New York Jazz Film Festival, now in its fifth season (skipped 2020 due to Covid-19), is the first film festival dedicated exclusively to jazz-centric cinema and  unique to The BeBop Channel, rewards our Officially Selected films and web/tv series with Stock Grants. 
 

New York Jazz Film Festival provides this platform for jazz musician-actors, directors and writers pursuing content related to jazz, to have their work seen.The 2021 festival will take place on August 10-12, 2021 at The BeBop Hotel Festival in Poughkeepsie, New York- about 90 minutes north of New York City. We particularly encourage the submission of narrative works which feature jazz musicians as actors. We do however, accept documentary and concert works.

 

Eligible selections will appear on The BeBop Channel and its associated platforms.

About the Festival

 

NYJFF was developed by former Duke Ellington Orchestra/Art Blakey trombonist and BeBop Channel co-founder Gregory Charles Royal. He has been at the fore of a movement to integrate musicians into theatre, television and film as actors.

​

For this festival, we encourage jazz musicians and film makers with an interest in jazz to take a bold step by creating and submitting works to further expand the reach of this art form in 21st century media.
 

 

 

Awards & Prizes

All Official Selections over 7 minutes are eligible to receive up to 2,000 shares of The BeBop Channel Corporation stock in the form of Restricted Stock Grants as part of a Licensing Agreement and Category Winners receive Award Certificates. Works under 7 minutes are eligible to receive up to 1,000 shares and filmmakers with collections accepted to the festival are eligible to receive a custom combination of shares.

ENTRY CATEGORIES

NOTE: We do Not Discern Between Formats During the Submission Process i.e., films vs web series, features vs shorts, or animation etc.. However, we do make those distinctions when we present our awards. We accept works of all genres and formats for consideration in the categories of:

GENERAL RULES

ALL works submitted MUST contain at least one of the following
JAZZ ACM components:

​

1) "A" The primary ACTOR is a bona fide instrumental jazz
musician.

2) "C" The thematic CONTENT of the work relates directly to jazz.

3) "M" The featured MUSIC of the work is substantially jazz.

​

Works can be submitted regardless of when they were completed.

Submissions do not have to be premiers to be selected for
exhibition.

Works may be submitted for consideration in multiple categories.

Non-English projects must contain English subtitles if selected for
screening.

ALL SUBMITTERS MUST AGREE TO:

 

1) Submit via the FilmFreeway screener directly or linking to Vimeo. YOUTUBE submissions (even via the FilmFreeway screener) are not accepted.

 

2) Be subject to a 10 day window to decline The BeBop Channel Stock Grant/License Agreement which will be emailed to Official Selections. (Declining the agreement/grant will not affect Official Selection Status)

 

3) Official Selections proceeding with Stock Grant/License Agreements receive up to 2,000 shares (over 7 minutes) or up to 1000 shares (under 7 minutes) or a custom combination of shares for filmmaker collections, of restricted company stock. The agreements are non-exclusive-- meaning that filmmakers may distribute their films on other platforms with an exception a public Youtube account. Licensed Films will appear on the BeBop Channel and its associated platforms for the term of your agreement, until December 31, 2023.

 

4) Make your film(s) available for download by the festival until June 1, 2021, should the film(s) be accepted.

Applicant(s) must have the legal ownership right to participate in
the festival.

 

If your submission is selected for screening, you agree to provide
the festival with promotional materials such as stills and bios.

 

The BeBop Channel Corporation and New York Jazz Film Festival are hereby granted the right to utilize promotional materials and excerpts from any film accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.

 

The SUBMITTER shall indemnify and hold harmless The BeBop Channel Corporation, and its affiliates and employees from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity and screening.
